"Do what?!", shouted Nathan in response.
"Do what?! DO WHAT?!", shouted Kentz in disbelief.
While Nathan was just staring at the ball in confusion, Rikka came and stole the ball right from under him.
"Thanks for the ball, sweetie!", teased Rikka.
Rikka ran down the field with the ball in tow as she gracefully dodged between Loke and feinted a pass to Sugar, to confuse Kiba. Daichi was waiting to stop the ball, and spread out his arms to protect the goal. Rikka drew back her tail and launched the ball at the target(which was just two water bottles placed adjacently). Daichi jumped up to block it, but missed by inches.
"WHOO-HOO! That's one for the Red Team!", exclaimed Rikka joyfully.
"Time out! Time out!", shouted Matt.
Matt ran up to Nathan who was still standing in the same spot as when the game started. The others followed behind him.
"Dude. Are you okay Nathan? That ball was practically calling your name.", asked Matt with concern.
", stammered Nathan,
"Nathan, Do you not know how to play the game?", asked Chaze.
"I've never played Soccer before
", said Nathan quietly.
"Why didn't you say anything before?", said Matt.
"You didn't ask.", replied Nathan.
The whole group fell over, anime style.
"Okay. So we'll have a brief intermission to teach you how, is all!", said Matt.
Matt went over and kicked the ball to Nathan .
"All you have to do is kick the ball to the opposite goal and try to get it past the goalie, like this!", said Matt, "Ready Daichi?!"
"Ready!", replied Daichi.
Matt ran up and kicked the ball. It flew toward Daichi and he jumped to block it in mid-air. Picking up the ball he kicked it back to Matt.
"However, if the goalie blocks it you don't get a point and the goalie gets to throw or kick the ball as far as he can back into the game.", stated Matt.
"Okay. That seems simple enough.", said Nathan.
"Your job is to get that ball into your opponent's goal by yourself, or with your team mate's help by passing them the ball", said Matt, as he demonstrated by passing it to Sugar.
"But I want the point!", shouted Nathan.
"No! The point goes to your whole team! Teamwork, TEAMWORK! You see?", sighed Matt.
"You have to watch out for your team or else the other team could steal the ball!", said Matt, "Here, try passing the ball to Loke.", said Nathan.
The group watched intently as Nathan ran up and kicked the ball to Loke. There was a loud thumping sound as Nathan's foot came in contact with the ball, and it went flying toward Loke at amazing speed. The ball flew past Loke's head so fast he didn't have any time to react. Loke looked back in fear at what almost hit him. All of the Pokemon's mouths stood agape at the powerful kick.
"Could have killed me
", Loke said internally.
"Maybe we could turn down the power a bit?", Matt nervously.
"Wow! Look how far it went!", said Daichi excitedly, completely oblivious to how painful it could have been to Loke had it hit him.
"I'll go get it!", said Daichi happily.
"Okay. You've got the basic concept down, so lets put it in action. Except when you shoot, try to control the power, okay?", said Matt.
"Okay guys! Time in! Daichi throw the ball in!", shouted Matt.
"Here it comes!", exclaimed the dragon as he chucked the ball out.
Loke was the first one to get to the ball, and he started racing toward the goal. He dodged Matt and passed it to Kiba. Head-butting the ball down the field toward the goal, Sugar and Matt appeared in front of him. He knew he couldn't get it past the two of them with their combined speed and agility, so he made a gamble and passed it to Nathan who came running by.
"It's all yours Nathan!", he shouted as he slammed it over to him with his tail.
Nathan was ready this time. He reached up, caught the ball and began running down-field with it like a football.
"STOP! Time-out! Again!", shouted Matt.
"What now?!", yelled Nathan.
Matt just sighed as he walked up to Nathan.
"Nathan. You can't use your hands in soccer.", said Matt calmly.
"Why the hell not?!", said Nathan angrily.
"It's against the rules.", sighed Matt, "Now my team gets to throw it in again."
"Dammit!", shouted Nathan.
As the game continued Nathan was continuously called out for fouls such as excessive violence, kicking the ball out of bounds, and scoring in the wrong goal. A the end of the game, the score was Red: 12 and Blue:3. Nathan just clenched his fists in frustration.
"I hate this game.", cursed Nathan under his breath.
"Nathan, how about we call it a game and get ready to go back to camp.", said Matt, "We leave for the next town in the morning.", said Matt trying to cheer Nathan.
"Everyone is tired. Lets' go eat some lunch.", said Matt cheerfully.
"FOOOOOOOOOOOOD!", Loke, Kiba, and Daichi yelled as they ran back to camp.
Everyone started heading back except Nathan, who continued to look upon the field with anger in his eyes.
"You coming?", ask Matt.
Nathan turned around and walked past Matt, without even answering.
Matt just sighed with a smile as he followed behind Nathan.
Later on, the gang sat around the blanket Tyler had set up for them and discussed various topics.
"Hey Chaze! Do want to eat together?" asked Rikka cutely.
", Chaze stammered as he turned bright red at Rikka's proposition, "Y
Chaze slowly walked over, sat down and placed his bowl on the table as he sat rigidly next to her. Rikka took this opportunity to scoot closer to him, and in response Chaze stiffened up even more. Rikka just looked at him and smiled as she went back to eating. After a few minutes she looked out of her eye and saw that Chaze wasn't touching his food. In fact, he hadn't moved from the rigid posture he took since he moved over to her.
"Chaze, Are you okay?", she asked worriedly as she got up in his face.
", Chaze said as he fumbled over his words.
"Your red all over, and you're your heart is beating fast!", said Rikka as she placed her paw on his chest.
It was too much for Chaze. The flames on his body, which were normally off when he wasn't in battle, burst out erratically and he fainted.
"Chaze?!", Rikka exclaimed.
"HAHAHA! She still doesn't get it.", said Kiba to Kentz giggling.
Overhearing the various conversations, Nathan sat on a rock a bit away from the group slowly eating his lunch. Tyler kept watch over his recently acquired Pokemon with worried eyes. He then looked over to Matt and motioned for him to look at Nathan. Matt turned around and saw Nathan, which he hadn't even known wasn't at the blanket until now. Matt got up and walked over to Nathan who seemed to be angry about something.
"What's up dude? You you should come join in the fun!" , said Matt with a smile.
"No. I've got a better idea." said Nathan loudly.
This outburst caught the attention of the group and they looked on to see what was going on.
"I challenge you for leadership over the group!", Nathan proclaimed Nathan.
